The Supreme Court has confirmed the legality of the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress' decision to expel Minister Naseer Ahemad from the party. As a result of this judgment, Naseer Ahemad's expulsion will result in the forfeiture of his parliamentary seat.

A three-judge panel led by Justice Preethi Padman Surasena at the Supreme Court concluded that there were no grounds to intervene in the party's decision to remove Naseer Ahemad from party membership.

The petitioner's application was consequently dismissed without imposing any costs.

Minister Naseer Ahemad was expelled by the SLMC after he voted in favor of the budget at the Third Reading on December 10, 2021. The SLMC's High Command had unanimously passed a resolution to remove the petitioner from party membership.
