At least five passengers were killed and several others been hospitalized following an incident in which a tree fell onto a bus en route from Colombo to Deniyaya this morning in Kollupitiya.
The tree collapsed onto the bus while it was in motion, approximately 100 meters from the Liberty Roundabout on Duplication Road.
This incident took place at 6:10 a.m., according to the police.
The injured passengers have been taken to Colombo General Hospital for medical treatment.
Efforts are currently underway to clear the road.
