The former sports monitoring officer of the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) has been arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption officers on charges of soliciting a bribe of Rs. 80,000. The arrest came following a complaint made by a person in Haputale.

According to the Commission, the suspect had solicited the bribe from the complainant in exchange for securing a conductor job at the SLTB. In December 2022, the suspect allegedly received Rs. 50,000 as a bribe from the complainant and promised to arrange conductor jobs for two of the complainant's siblings in return for an additional bribe of Rs. 150,000.

The Commission said that the suspect initially received Rs. 70,000 as part of the bribe to facilitate the conductor jobs and was arrested in front of the Borella Bus Stand while soliciting the remaining Rs. 80,000.

The suspect was remanded until October 17 after being produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate Court.
