Recent scan tests conducted on the elephant named "Sita", which was injured in a shooting by a Civil Security Department Officer on the banks of the Mahaweli River, have confirmed that it sustained seven injuries from live cartridges. 

An officer from the Civil Defense Department at the Mapakada Wewa Wildlife Regional Office has been arrested following an incident in which an elephant named "Sita" was shot at during the Mahiyangana Rajamaha Viharaya's Randoli Perahera.

Earlier, acting Minister of Defence Premitha Bandara Tennakoon has ordered the relevant authorities to conduct an impartial investigation into the shooting.
