The Cabinet of Ministers has granted approval to a proposal put forth by the President, who also serves as the Minister of Defense to establish regulatory measures aimed at preventing the misuse of chemicals.
A wide range of chemicals is currently in use across the country, serving various peaceful purposes, including industrial, agricultural, medical, and research applications.
Among these chemicals, substances like Nitric acid, Chlorine, Hydrogen Peroxide, Potassium Cyanide, Sodium Cyanide, Nitro Methane, and Sodium Azide possess dual-use characteristics, with potential applications both for legitimate activities and illicit purposes.
It has become evident that there is a potential risk associated with these chemicals being exploited in various industries, including milk processing, beverage production, oil-related sectors, and water purification, for activities that pose a threat to national security.
In response to this concern, the Cabinet of Ministers has granted approval the proposal to establish regulatory measures aimed at preventing the misuse of such chemicals and transferring the responsibility for overseeing this regulation to the National Authority for the Implementation of the Chemical Weapons Convention.
