The Health Ministry of Sri Lanka has decided to suspend the Emergency Purchase of medicines due to concerns and misconceptions surrounding the procedure.
Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella made this announcement during a news briefing in Colombo yesterday.
According to the Minister, there have been misunderstandings associated with the Emergency Purchase process, leading to allegations. As a result, the decision has been made to temporarily halt this method.
However, it is important to note that Emergency Purchase will still be implemented in the event of any future emergencies, such as another pandemic.
In addition, Minister Rambukwella highlighted that there is currently a shortage of approximately 170 to 200 drugs.
