Public Security Minister Tiran Alles has directed the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to initiate a thorough investigation into the resignation of Mullaitivu District Judge and Magistrate, T. Saravanarajah.
In a letter dated September 23, 2023, addressed to the Judicial Services Commission, Saravanarajah, who presided over the controversial Kurundimale Viharaya case, announced his decision to step down from multiple judicial roles, including District Judge, Magistrate, Family Court Judge, Primary Court Judge, Small Claims Court Judge, and Juvenile Court Judge. The judge cited receiving death threats as the primary reason for his resignation.
Previously, President Ranil Wickremesinghe also instructed his secretary, Saman Ekanayake, to conduct an immediate and comprehensive investigation into the sudden resignation of Magistrate Saravanarajah.
