Sri Lankan cricketer Danushka Gunathilaka, who was accused of sexual assault in Australia, has spoken to the media after being acquitted of all charges by a Sydney Court today.
Gunathilaka expressed his relief, saying, "The verdict says everything."
During his statement, he thanked his manager, legal team, and supporters in both Australia and Sri Lanka for their unwavering belief in his innocence.
Gunathilaka emphasized that the judge's decision has clarified who was truthful, stating, "The verdict says everything."
He also expressed his eagerness to return to playing cricket, remarking, "I'm happy that my life is normal again. I can't wait to go back and play cricket."
The international cricket star faced a judge-alone trial at the Downing Centre District Court in Sydney, where he pleaded not guilty to a charge of sexual assault without consent related to an incident in November of last year.
The judge's verdict found Gunathilaka not guilty, citing evidence that indicated there was "no opportunity" for him to have removed a condom during the sexual encounter and noting his truthfulness during the police interview.
All other charges initially filed against Gunathilaka, including rape, were dropped, and he can now look forward to resuming his cricket career.
