Four individuals, including a journalist from a private TV channel, have been arrested abd detained connection with the recent shooting incident that occurred in Talduwa, Avissawella on September 20.
According to the police, the detained journalist is under suspicion for allegedly aiding the criminal activities of Manna Ramesh by sharing crucial information. The STF arrested the journalist at his residence in Meegoda, where a search of his mobile phone unveiled multiple phone calls made to Manna Ramesh over the past few days.
The shooting incident in Gurupasgoda, Ihala Thalduwa, Avissawella resulted in two fatalities and two injuries as an armed assailant opened fire on a group traveling in a three-wheeler. Investigations have revealed that the victims were returning from a funeral.
Authorities have identified the orchestrator of the shooting as an underworld gangster known as 'Manna Ramesh,' who is reportedly based in Dubai. Further inquiries have led to the discovery that Manna Ramesh had deposited money into the journalist's bank account on several occasions.
The detained journalist, along with three others who allegedly provided accommodation and transportation services to the gunman, were presented before the Avissawella Magistrate Court and remain in custody for additional questioning.
