A group of gamblers including wealthy businessman, senior military officials and leading personalities have been arrested during a raid on a large scale gambling den in a holiday resort in Atabage in Gampola on Sunday night (24) by the Gampola police.
Police said the suspects were identified as residents of Navalapitiya, Ginigathena Gampola, Udunuwara, Peradeniya and Pilimatalawa areas.
Investigations revealed that one of them was a Captain in Charge of a Military Camp.
Police said the holiday resort had been reserved by the racketeers to run the gambling den since long and that the gamblers should produce a minimum of Rs. 300,000 on entry to the gambling den and that they were entitled to a host of facilities including liquor.
