Six arrested for assaulting police officers at Mt. Lavinia Beach
Six individuals have been arrested following an incident at Mt. Lavinia Beach in which they assaulted police officers.
Police said a group of officers had responded to information about a gathering of intoxicated individuals swimming in a perilous section of the beach known for its rocky terrain.
The officers' initial intent was to warn the group about the potential dangers.
However, a confrontation ensued as the suspects became increasingly argumentative and disorderly when confronted by the police.
During this altercation, the suspects attacked the police officers who were attempting to maintain control over the situation.
Two police officers sustained injuries and were subsequently admitted to the Colombo South Teaching Hospital for medical treatment.
The police have taken six suspects aged between 16 to 30 into custody in connection with the assault.
