The Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera, embarked on an official visit to the United States, where he participated in the 25th International Seapower Symposium (ISS) held at the U.S. Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island from September 19th to 22nd, 2023.
During the visit, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera engaged with high-ranking officials from regional and extra-regional maritime forces. Notably, he held discussions with Admiral Lisa M. Franchetti, the Chief of Naval Operations, and Vice Admiral Brad Cooper, the Commander of U.S. Naval Forces Central Command, on September 22nd. Their talks encompassed critical topics such as maritime security, cooperation, and bilateral matters of significance.
The 25th International Seapower Symposium, convened under the theme of "Security through Partnership," brought together naval leaders and experts from around the world. The symposium, which has been a biennial event since its inception in 1969, serves as a crucial platform for global maritime authorities to foster collaboration and advocate for joint efforts in advancing international maritime security. It is a unique gathering where numerous naval leaders converge simultaneously to strengthen maritime security and cooperative operations.
