The Colombo High Court served indictments to former Jaffna District Parliamentarian M.K. Sivajilingam for his involvement in events related to the 33rd death anniversary commemoration of former LTTE member Rasaiah Parthipan, known as 'Thileepan,' in 2020.

The Attorney General pressed charges against M.K. Sivajilingam for organizing and participating in a memorial event for Thileepan, which took place in Kondavil, Jaffna, around September 15, 2020.

Initially, the High Court had issued an arrest warrant for Sivajilingam due to his failure to appear in court. However, when the case was presented before Colombo High Court Judge Adithya Patabendige, the accused surrendered through his legal representatives. Consequently, the warrant was withdrawn, and the High Court ordered his release, contingent on two sureties, each amounting to one million rupees. The pre-trial hearing is scheduled for October 20.

The Attorney General filed charges against former Parliamentarian Sivajilingam for contravening a presidential order issued under the Public Security Ordinance via an extraordinary gazette notification dated August 29, 2011. This is in conjunction with Article 44(2) of the Constitution and Section 27 of the Prevention of Terrorism Act.
