Dubai authorities have arrested Lalith Kannangara, a notorious underworld criminal wanted on international red notices.
The Southern District Crime Division of the Western Province had previously obtained a red notice for the arrest of Lalith Kannangara, who is suspected of being involved in organized crime and drug trafficking.
Law enforcement officials have identified Kannangara as the prime suspect in several murders, including the killing of a restaurant owner in Hanwella.
On December 18 of last year, an individual known as "Burumoona" shot and killed a person in a shop located in the Hanwella area.
Police suspect that Lalith Kannangara orchestrated the shooting and has been operating from Dubai.
Accordingly, the police have obtained an Interpol Red Notice for his arrest.
Efforts are currently underway to extradite Kannangara back to Sri Lanka, police said.
