A heated exchange between Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka and former President Maithripala Sirisena stole the spotlight during a parliamentary debate on the Channel 4 allegations regarding the Easter Sunday bomb attacks.
The confrontation began when Fonseka accused MP Sirisena of being one of the key masterminds behind the April 21 attacks. This remark was made in response to Sirisena's comment about Fonseka's inability to defend the Army Headquarters.
Sirisena retaliated by mentioning Fonseka's previous injuries sustained in an attack, suggesting that he was unfit for the role.
In a counterattack, Fonseka labeled Sirisena as one of the masterminds behind the Easter Sunday bombings and criticized his lack of understanding of the responsibilities of an army commander.
Sirisena then brought up the number of soldiers who lost their lives during Fonseka's tenure, stating that over 1,000 soldiers died.
Fonseka responded by highlighting the larger context of the battle, noting that while around 5,000 soldiers were killed, they managed to eliminate more than 25,000 terrorists. He expressed regret for supporting Sirisena as the Presidential candidate in 2015
