The Colombo Fort Magistrate's Court has issued a restraining order against several organizations from conducting events to commemorate the death anniversary of Rasaiah Parthipan, known as Thileepan, in various areas of Colombo. This order comes in response to concerns raised by the police, who have cited the potential for these events to cause disruptions to the public.

This order comes in response to concerns raised by the police, who have cited the potential for these events to cause disruptions to the public.
The Court issued this order taking into consideration the requests made by police citing that several organisations are planning to commemorate Thileepan today (19) within Colombo Fort, Slave Island and Kollupitiya areas causing disturbances to the public.
Earlier, the police had arrested several people for allegedly assaulting Tamil National People's Front (TNFP), MP Selvarasa Gajendran and several others who had organized a motorcade in remembrance of Thileepan, who died on the 26th of September 1987 during a hunger-strike in Jaffna, that took place citing several demands, including the immediate exit of the Indian Peace Keeping Force from Sri Lanka.
The Thileepan memorial motorcade commenced from the Pothuvil town on 15th September, and proceeded to Batticaloa via Verugal, and Muttur, and was eventually obstructed by a group in Sardapura, while en route to Trincomalee.
The group had then assaulted the vehicle carrying an image of Thileepan, and thereafter, assaulted MP Selvarasa Gajendran.
