Yupun Abeykoon, the fastest sprinter in South Asia, has made the difficult decision to withdraw from the upcoming Asian Games in China.

The Sri Lankan athlete sustained an injury during a recent race, which has hindered his ability to compete at his best. Abeykoon had a promising start to the summer season, achieving impressive results.

However, a race in Savona, Italy, ended in an unfortunate injury. Since then, he has been diligently focusing on his recovery and rehabilitation for the past three months, under the guidance of experts. After careful consideration, taking into account past results, personal records, the current form of competing athletes, and his own physical condition, Abeykoon and his team have decided not to participate in the Asian Games.

The decision was made after extensive discussions and an evaluation of the required timings to secure a medal in the competition.

Though disappointed, Abeykoon remains dedicated to his recovery and is determined to bounce back stronger.
