Increase in Sri Lankan workers moving to South Korea for employment

The number of Sri Lankans migrating to South Korea for employment has seen a significant rise this year. 

As per the Minister of Labor and Foreign Employment, Manusha Nanayakkara, the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) has successfully sent 4,556 Sri Lankans to work in South Korea during the first 8 months of this year.

Among them, 3,565 individuals were first-time workers in South Korea, while 991 were re-entry workers who returned to the same workplace after completing their service period. The majority of these workers, 3,774 in total, were employed in the manufacturing sector, followed by 639 in the fishing sector, 140 in construction, and three in agriculture.

Of the total number, 4,462 were male employees, while the remaining 94 were female employees. Furthermore, on Tuesday, an additional 170 Sri Lankan youths embarked on a journey to South Korea on SriLankan Airlines flight UL 470.
