The National Building Research Organization (NBRO) in Sri Lanka has raised the alert level for potential landslides in several regions. The most critical warning, Level 03 red alert, has been issued for the Eheliyagoda area in the Ratnapura District, indicating a serious threat.
Eheliyagoda, located in the Ratnapura District, has been marked with a red alert, indicating an immediate and critical risk. These alerts are given based on ongoing meteorological factors and geological assessments, emphasizing the need for residents and local authorities to be cautious.
The NBRO has also issued amber warnings, which signify a significant but slightly lower risk, for multiple areas across three districts:
- Kalutara District – Bulathsinhala and Ingiriya Divisional Secretariat Divisions
- Kegalle District – Warakapola Divisional Secretariat Division
- Ratnapura District – Ratnapura and Kuruwita Divisional Secretariat Divisions
The NBRO has extended Level 01 warnings for several other regions within the mentioned districts:
- Galle District – Baddegama, Elpitiya, and Nagoda Divisions
- Kalutara District – Palindanuwara, Mathugama, and Walallawita Divisions
- Kegalle District – Bulathkohupitiya, Dehiowita, Deraniyagala, Yatiyantota, and Ruwanwella Divisions
- Ratnapura District – Kiriella, Ayagama, and Kalawana Divisions
All these landslide early warnings are expected to remain active until 10:30 p.m. on Monday, September 4th.
Residents in the identified areas are strongly advised to remain vigilant and monitor the environment for signs of landslides, slope failures, rock falls, cutting failures, and ground subsidence. Immediate evacuation and seeking higher grounds are recommended at the first signs of any geological disturbances.
