In a devastating turn of events, a thunderstorm beset the state of Odisha, claiming the lives of eight individuals and harming another eight. Repeated instances of lightning strikes wreaked havoc across different parts of the state, a grim reminder of the changeable and unpredictable nature of weather patterns.
According to official reports, the victims were caught unawares, engaged in everyday activities when tragedy struck. The victims lost their lives in various areas of the state, with districts such as Cuttack, Jajpur, and Puri amongst others being affected. While four of these unfortunate victims succumbed at the site of the thunderstorm, the remaining were rushed to the hospital but could not survive the deadly lightning strikes.
Furthermore, the fierce storm left eight people injured across several districts of the state. They are currently receiving treatment at different hospitals; their condition and further updates on their health remain undisclosed at this time.
Contrary to the sudden tragedy, the local weather department had issued a forecast, alerting about thunderstorms and lightning in various districts the same day. The warning, sadly, didn’t effectively reach those who needed it most, resulting in the fatal consequence of the storm.
Efforts are being made to investigate the effectiveness of the alert system and strategize a more efficient delivery of warnings to prevent such unfortunate incidents in the future.
