The Finance Ministry has made the decision to carry out a comprehensive survey in order to gather information about the vehicles utilized by Government Ministerial Departments, Institutional Boards, Provincial Councils, and Local Government Institutions.

To facilitate this process, a new computer software has been developed to allow the Treasury to easily obtain information about the vehicles within these entities.

Mahinda Siriwardena, Secretary of the Finance Ministry, stated that the relevant institutions have been instructed to input all vehicle-related data into this software.

A similar survey was previously conducted by the Ministry in 2015.

The objective of this census is to accurately assess the number of functional and non-functional vehicles.

During the previous survey, it was discovered that government institutions possessed approximately 80,000 vehicles.

Siriwardena emphasized that this time, the survey will encompass vehicles owned by both the central government and the provincial councils, as well as local government bodies.
