The Prison Department has announced that two inmates at Galle Prison have tragically lost their lives and several others have been hospitalized as a result of an unknown illness.
In response to this alarming situation, five additional inmates have been admitted to Karapitiya Hospital for necessary medical care.
As a precautionary measure, the Prisons Department has implemented the use of face masks within the prison premises to safeguard against the unidentified epidemic.
Meanwhile, an investigation has been launched to determine the nature and source of the infection.
