In response to the shortage of specialist doctors in the country, the Ministry of Health has made the decision to re-hire retired specialists.

Dr. G Wijesuriya, Deputy Director General of Health Services at the Ministry of Health, announced this initiative to address the current shortfall of approximately 400 specialist doctors.

The vacancies for specialist doctors are particularly prominent in areas outside of Colombo, according to reports. To fill these positions, the Ministry is actively considering the option of recruiting retired specialists.

Dr. Wijesuriya emphasized that the Ministry is fully prepared to provide numerous facilities and support to retired specialists who are willing to return to work. This initiative aims to alleviate the strain on the health sector and ensure that essential healthcare services are accessible to all.
