In an effort to address the ongoing drought crisis, the Disaster Management Center (DMC) and the Disaster Relief Center have taken action by distributing much-needed water supplies to 52 Divisional Secretariats across 15 districts, as confirmed by DMC Director General Maj. Gen. (Rtd) Sudantha Ranasinghe.

Over the course of the past 1.5 months, approximately 181,676 individuals from 52,435 families have received drinking water assistance, Ranasinghe stated. The impact of the drought has been particularly severe in Ampara, Batticaloa, Jaffna, and Ratnapura districts, he added.

In response to the pressing need, the government has allocated Rs. 4.5 million to support the water distribution efforts, ensuring that affected communities receive the essential resources required to alleviate their hardships.
