The kandy Esala Perahera of the Temple of the Tooth Relic in Kandy commenced today with the Kap planting ceremony.
Diyawadana Nilame Pradeep Nilanga Dela Bandara said the Kap planting ceremony took place at 6.12am with the participation of representatives of four dewalayas.
After the planting of Kap, five internal Peraheras will be held in the Sathara Maha Devalas of Natha, Vishnu, Kataragama and Pattini, and the Kumbal Perahera street tour will begin after that.
The first ‘Kumbal Perahera’ of this year’s Kandy Esala festival will parade the streets on the 21st of August and will continue for five days till the 25th of August.
‘Randoli Perahera’ will parade the streets of Kandy from the 26th of August.Grand Randoli procession will be held on the 31st of August.
