The water levels in the 73 reservoirs they control have decreased significantly, leaving only 900,000 acre-inches of water capacity available for use, the Irrigation Department said.
This represents only 30.3 percent of the total water capacity. Out of these reservoirs, nine have a water capacity of less than 10 percent, while 32 have a capacity of less than 30 percent.
Overall, the water capacity of the reservoirs is below 50 percent. Long-term studies show that the current water level has decreased by two or three percent.
