A cooperation agreement on education and research exchange was signed today between the University of Illinois in the United States and the University of Peradeniya in Sri Lanka.
The signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the two universities to establish a cooperative exchange program in the field of education and research took place under the chairmanship of the Minister of Education Dr. Susil Premajayantha at the University Grants Commission premises today.
On behalf of Sri Lanka, Peradeniya University Vice-Chancellor Professor M. D. Lamawansa signed the agreement and Peter Constable, Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine of the University of Illinois, signed the agreement on behalf of the University of Illinois.
According to this agreement signed in relation to the expansion and strengthening of research and professional education cooperation between the two countries, special educational development is expected in the fields of veterinary medicine, animal feed, animal medicine and veterinary surgery in the University of Peradeniya and it is also expected to exchange relevant information and technical knowledge between the two countries.
Famous Sri Lankan scientist Siva Sivanathan, Chairman of the University Grants Commission Professor Sampath Amaratunga and other officials were present on this occasion.
