The Inspector General of Police (IGP) has appointed a committee, led by Deshabandu Tennakoon, Senior Deputy Inspector General of the Western Province, to investigate and provide recommendations on combating narcotic drugs and underworld activities.

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) has appointed a committee, led by Deshabandu Tennakoon, Senior Deputy Inspector General of the Western Province, to investigate and provide recommendations on combating narcotic drugs and underworld activities. 

Public Security Minister Tiran Alles provided guidance in the formation of this committee.

The committee consists of Senior DIG K.P.M. Gunaratne from the Northern Province, SDIG Sajeewa Medawatta from the Southern Province, STF Commandant DIG Waruna Jayasundara, CID DIG S.P. Ranasingha, Police Narcotics Bureau DIG Oshan Hewawitharana, Special Bureau DIG T.C.A. Dhanapala, and Colombo Crimes Division Director N. Silva.

Their main objective is to evaluate the current situation and propose effective strategies to address the issues related to drug trafficking and organized crime. The committee will submit their findings to both the Police Headquarters and the Ministry of Public Security.
