Sri Lanka has announced a nationwide dengue prevention week from November 9 to 14, in response to a rise in dengue cases and the increased risk of outbreaks associated with changing weather patterns and entomological indicators.
The campaign will cover 74 Medical Officer of Health (MOH) divisions and will be led by the National Dengue Control Unit in collaboration with the Ministry of State Administration, Provincial Councils, the Clean Sri Lanka Secretariat, police, armed forces and volunteer organizations.
During the campaign, coordinated inspections will be conducted, with integrated dengue inspection teams deployed to identify and eliminate mosquito breeding sites, particularly in neglected premises.
Special cleaning programmes will also be carried out at schools, temples, universities and other religious institutions.
A central operations centre will monitor daily activities to ensure the effective implementation of the campaign.
The initiative aims to reduce dengue transmission, safeguard public health and encourage greater community participation in maintaining clean and mosquito-free surroundings.
