Three police officers attached to the Homagama Police Station have been suspended with immediate effect following the death of a suspect who was arrested on drug-related charges and held in police custody.
The suspended officers include the Officer-in-Charge of the Criminal Investigation Division, a Sub-Inspector and a Police Sergeant.
Further investigations into the death have been handed over to the Western Province South Crimes Division.
The post-mortem examination of the deceased is scheduled to be conducted tomorrow (27).
The deceased has been identified as 29-year-old Ishara Harsha Kumara, a father of two who resided in the Kiriwaththuduwa area.
The victim’s relatives allege that he died as a result of severe assault by the police.
