Train services between Rambukkana and Gampola via Peradeniya have been temporarily suspended from midnight today (25) until further notice, the Department of Railways announced.
The suspension follows the activation of a landslide near Kadigamuwa Railway Station, between Rambukkana and Peradeniya, which has caused soil to wash onto the railway track amid adverse weather conditions.
The risk of further earth and soil collapses remains high due to continued heavy rainfall in the area, the department said.
Train services will remain suspended until the necessary repairs are completed and the railway line is confirmed to be safe for operations.
Passengers who have purchased reserved seats on trains scheduled to operate during the suspension period can obtain a full refund at any railway station, the department added.
