The Department of Meteorology has issued a weather warning for multi-day fishing vessels operating in the deep-sea areas of the Bay of Bengal due to the possibility of a developing cyclone.

A new low-pressure area has formed over the Bay of Bengal near the North Andaman Islands and is highly likely to develop into a depression within the next few hours.

The system is expected to move northwestwards and intensify further, potentially developing into a deep depression.

According to the Department of Meteorology, there is a very high probability that the system will develop into a cyclone over the west-central Bay of Bengal by the morning of October 26.

In view of this developing weather system, fishing and naval activities in the sea areas between 10°N and 20°N latitude and 80°E and 95°E longitude have been advised to cease until further notice.

Fishing and naval communities currently operating in these areas have also been instructed to move their vessels to safer locations immediately.

The Department of Meteorology has urged fishing and naval communities to remain highly vigilant and closely monitor future weather advisories.
