The Fort Magistrate’s Court today rejected a motion filed by former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa seeking permission to travel overseas for medical treatment due to a discrepancy in the date stated in the motion.

When the case was taken up today, Additional Solicitor General Dileepa Peiris, appearing on behalf of the Attorney General, informed the court that Gotabaya Rajapaksa has not yet been named as a suspect in the Criminal Investigation Department’s (CID) ongoing investigation into the Easter Sunday terror attacks.

The Additional Solicitor General further indicated that, given this circumstance, the request to lift the travel ban could be considered on humanitarian grounds, if necessary.
