The Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB), in collaboration with the Sri Lankan High Commission in the United Kingdom, has organised a promotional programme in London on October 21 and 22 to promote Sri Lanka Expo 2027 and attract a strong delegation of British business representatives to the event.

The programme includes a business and investment forum on October 21, followed by a networking session with British buyers, investors, representatives of chambers of commerce, and relevant business and trade promotion organisations.

Bilateral business-to-business (B2B) meetings are also scheduled for October 22 to facilitate direct engagement between Sri Lankan stakeholders and potential British business partners.

The initiative aims to position Sri Lanka as a reliable and competitive trade and investment partner in the UK market, promote Sri Lankan products and services, identify export diversification opportunities, and encourage UK companies to explore sourcing goods and services from Sri Lanka, as well as investment and business partnerships.

It also seeks to strengthen bilateral trade and investment ties between the two countries and generate wider interest in Sri Lanka Expo 2027, which is scheduled to be held in Sri Lanka from January 14 to 17, 2027.

An official Sri Lankan government delegation, led by Minister of Trade, Commerce, Food Security and Cooperative Development Wasantha Samarasinghe, has travelled to the UK to participate in the promotional programme.

The delegation includes the Secretary to the Ministry of Industries and Entrepreneurship Development, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the EDB, and the Executive Director of the Board of Investment of Sri Lanka (BOI).

Through these targeted promotional activities, Sri Lanka aims to establish direct links with prospective British business partners and encourage maximum participation from the UK at Expo 2027.

The programme is also expected to help Sri Lankan exporters make greater use of preferential market access available under the UK Developing Countries Trading Scheme (UK DCTS), expand export opportunities, and further strengthen trade and investment cooperation between Sri Lanka and the United Kingdom.
