A stock of narcotics valued at more than Rs. 67 million has been seized during a special operation conducted at the Colombo Central Mail Exchange.
The operation was carried out by the Customs Narcotics Control Unit.
The drugs, including Kush, cannabis, narcotic pills and Mandi, were discovered concealed inside 11 suspicious foreign postal parcels sent from several countries.
Customs Narcotics Control Unit officers had identified the suspicious parcels over the past several months while inspecting incoming international mail items.
The parcels were subsequently detained until their recipients arrived to claim them. However, as no one came forward to collect the parcels within the stipulated period, authorities decided to open and inspect them in the presence of officers from the Police Narcotics Bureau.
