Sri Lanka’s first passenger transport drone has arrived in the country, the Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka has announced.

The drone’s maiden flight is scheduled to take place at Colombo Port City at the end of this month, according to the authority.

The passenger drone can carry two people at a time and is capable of flying continuously for up to 30 minutes.

Sri Lanka secured this opportunity through EHang’s “Global Fast Track Program”, an initiative aimed at accelerating the introduction of drone-based aircraft to international markets.

Colombo Port City has been designated as the main operational hub for these passenger drones. Plans are also underway to launch flights for tourists in Sigiriya, Pidurangala and surrounding areas.

The initiative is expected to introduce a new dimension to Sri Lanka’s tourism sector through drone-based passenger transport services.
