An official at the Presidential Secretariat has informed the Maha Sangha participating in the “Nidhase Paada Yaathra” that a decision on their demand for the release of Ven. Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thera would be made within one month.

However, the monks insisted on receiving an official statement from Presidential Secretary Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake specifying a definite date for the decision. They also vowed to remain at the site until written confirmation was provided.

Dr. Kumanayake earlier arrived at the Presidential Secretariat in Colombo to hold discussions with the Buddhist monks who had marched to the area demanding Gnanasara Thera’s release.

During the discussion, the Maha Sangha requested that an alleged technical flaw in the presidential pardon granted to Gnanasara Thera by former President Maithripala Sirisena be rectified. They also urged the Presidential Secretary to clarify how long the process would take.

The monks are continuing their protest, seeking a clear commitment from the authorities regarding their demand.
