The Department of Meteorology has forecast an increase in rainfall across Sri Lanka due to an atmospheric disturbance in the lower levels of the atmosphere over the Bay of Bengal near the island. The sky is expected to remain cloudy across the country, with showers or thundershowers occurring at times in the Northern, Eastern, Southern and Western provinces.

Showers or thundershowers are also expected in other parts of the island after 1.00 p.m.

Heavy rainfall exceeding 100 mm is likely at some locations in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, Central and North Western provinces, as well as in the Anuradhapura District.

Fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 75 mm may occur at some locations in other parts of the country.

The Department of Meteorology has urged the public to take necessary precautions to minimise possible accidents caused by lightning and temporary strong winds accompanying thundershowers.

Meanwhile, misty conditions may prevail in some areas of the Sabaragamuwa, Central and Uva provinces during the early morning hours.
