Three Thai nationals have been arrested at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake early today (October 15) while attempting to leave the airport with a consignment of hashish valued at approximately Rs. 51 million.
The suspects, two aged 22 and the other 33, were arrested by officers of the Airport Police Narcotics Bureau.
The three suspects had arrived at BIA at around 12.30 a.m. today aboard Thai Airways flight TG-307 from Bangkok, Thailand.
During an inspection of their three pieces of luggage, officers discovered 5 kilograms and 96 grams of hashish concealed inside containers of cosmetic products.
The suspects and the seized drugs are scheduled to be produced before the Negombo Magistrate’s Court today for further legal proceedings.
