The National Building Research Organisation (NBRO) has issued landslide early warnings for several areas across Sri Lanka due to persistent rainfall.
The warnings are valid for 24 hours, from 4.00 p.m. today (October 11) until 4.00 p.m. tomorrow (October 12).
Under Level 2 (Yellow – Alert), warnings have been issued for Ruwanwella, Bulathkohupitiya and Mawanella in the Kegalle District.
Meanwhile, Level 1 (Amber – Awareness) warnings have been issued for the following areas:
Badulla District: Ella and Passara.
Kalutara District: Walallavita and Bulathsinhala.
Kandy District: Thumpane, Yatinuwara, Hatharaliyadda and Dolosbage.
Kegalle District: Aranayake, Dehiowita, Yatiyanthota, Rambukkana, Kegalle and Warakapola.
Kurunegala District: Mawathagama, Mallawapitiya and Alawwa.
Matale District: Matale, Rattota and Ambanganga Korale.
Nuwara Eliya District: Hanguranketha.
Ratnapura District: Imbulpe, Nivithigala, Ayagama, Kuruwita, Weligepola, Eheliyagoda, Kalawana and Ratnapura.
Authorities have urged residents in the affected areas to remain vigilant, as continued rainfall could trigger landslides, earth slips and rockfalls.
Motorists travelling through these areas have also been advised to exercise caution and remain alert to changing conditions.
