Six major reservoirs and two medium-sized reservoirs are currently overflowing, the Department of Irrigation has announced.
The department disclosed this in a report detailing the current water levels of reservoirs across the country.
The six major reservoirs overflowing are Ambewela, Kande Ela, Yan Oya, Rajanganaya, Deduru Oya and Wan Ela.
At the Rajanganaya Reservoir, two spill gates have been opened by five feet each, another two by four feet each, and two more by two feet each.
As a result, the reservoir is releasing water into the Kala Oya at a rate of 5,365 cubic feet per second.
Meanwhile, the Deduru Oya Reservoir is releasing water into the Deduru Oya at a rate of 2,800 cubic feet per second. Two spill gates at the reservoir have been opened by two feet each.
The report further states that the Bomuruella and Denagama Wewa reservoirs, classified as medium-sized reservoirs, are also overflowing.
