Two spill gates of the Deduru Oya Reservoir have been opened by one foot each since last night (07) due to heavy rainfall in the catchment areas.
The reservoir’s water level has risen to the spill level following heavy rains in the upper and middle catchment areas over the past few days.
With the opening of the spill gates, around 1,400 cubic feet of water per second is currently being released into the Deduru Oya.
The Kurunegala District Disaster Management Centre said the situation does not currently pose a flood risk. However, residents living downstream of the reservoir and those using roads in the surrounding areas have been advised to remain vigilant and exercise caution.
