The Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) returned to negative territory on Wednesday (07), with both benchmark indices closing lower amid increased selling pressure.

The ASPI declined by 132.68 points, or 0.64%, to 20,517.55, while the S&P SL20 fell 27.88 points, or 0.48%, to 5,816.40.

The ASPI briefly approached the 20,700 level during early trading before trending lower throughout the session and closing near the day’s low.

Market turnover improved to Rs. 1.97 billion, with 60.40 million shares changing hands.

The Energy sector led market activity with turnover of Rs. 570.24 million, with Lanka IOC accounting for approximately Rs. 568.36 million of the sector’s turnover.
