The Department of Meteorology has issued an advisory warning of strong lightning activity in several parts of the country.
The advisory, issued at 11.00 a.m. today (7), will remain valid until 1.00 a.m. tomorrow (8).
According to the Department, there is an increased possibility of strong lightning accompanied by thundershowers in parts of the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Uva, North Western and Southern provinces, as well as the Anuradhapura and Mannar districts, during the evening or night.
Temporary strong winds may also occur in these areas during thundershowers, the Department said.
The public has been urged to take necessary precautions to minimize the risk of accidents caused by lightning.
