The government has decided to provide an official email address to every public sector employee as part of its digitalisation programme, the Ministry of Digital Economy said.
Deputy Minister of Digital Economy Eranga Weeraratne said the initiative would help connect the public service through a unified network, facilitate participation in video conferences, and improve data sharing between government institutions.
He noted that many public sector employees currently use personally created email accounts for official communication. Providing official government email addresses would make it easier and more secure to exchange essential documents and other information, he said.
The initiative is also expected to accelerate the government’s digitalisation programme and improve the efficiency of public sector services.
The facility will be provided to all government officials who conduct official transactions via email.
