Ten doctors who issued medical reports concerning the continued hospitalization of former State Intelligence Service (SIS) chief Suresh Sallay, along with the Director of the Colombo National Hospital, are scheduled to appear before the Fort Magistrate’s Court this afternoon (6).
Sallay, who is being detained and questioned as a suspect in connection with the Easter Sunday terror attacks, is currently receiving treatment in a general ward at the National Hospital.
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) informed the court through a motion that Sallay had not been released to its custody by September 28, despite a statement previously made by the National Hospital Director in open court that he could be handed over to the CID by that date.
Accordingly, Fort Magistrate Pasan Amarasekara issued notices requiring the doctors and the hospital director to appear before court today.
The CID has further informed the court that a medical report signed by a 10-member medical panel, including a nutritionist and psychiatrists, had stated that Sallay could not be discharged from the hospital.
Based on the medical report, Sallay has not yet been released to the CID, according to a further report filed by the CID before the court.
