An order has been issued to freeze assets and bank accounts worth approximately Rs. 40 million allegedly belonging to organized crime and drug trafficking suspect Nirmala Prasanga, alias ‘Backhoe Saman’.

The suspect was arrested in Indonesia in connection with organized crime and drug trafficking.

The order was issued by the Police Illegal Assets Investigation Division and will remain in effect for 14 working days from October 5.

The frozen assets include a luxury Mercedes-Benz car valued at around Rs. 20 million and two fixed deposits worth a total of Rs. 20 million held at two private banks.

According to information received by investigators, the assets had allegedly been purchased in the name of a woman identified as Nimanthi Fonseka.

Further investigations are being conducted under the supervision of Senior Superintendent of Police C.W. Wickramasekara, Director of the Illegal Assets Investigation Division.
