Ven. Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thera, who was arrested at a monastery in Tiniyawala last night (03) while an open warrant was pending against him, is due to be produced before court today (04).
The Court of Appeal had recently issued an open warrant directing that Gnanasara Thera be arrested and produced before court after he was sentenced to a prison term for contempt of court.
The Court of Appeal had also imposed a travel ban preventing him from leaving the country.
Gnanasara Thera was arrested at an Aranya Senasanaya in the Tiniyawala area last night while the warrant was in force.
Following his arrest, he was brought to the Colombo Crime Division later that night.
