Sri Lanka will introduce new standardisation and quality-control requirements for imported passenger car tyres and pneumatic tyres used in three-wheeled motor vehicles from January 1, 2027.
The regulations have been issued by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake in his capacity as Minister of Finance under the Imports and Exports (Control) Act, No. 1 of 1969.
According to Extraordinary Gazette No. 2508/27, dated October 1, 2026, the amendments expand the existing Standardization and Quality Control Regulations introduced in May 2024.
Under the new provisions, imported passenger car tyres classified under HS Code 4011.10.90 must comply with Sri Lanka Standard SLS 1212, which sets specifications for passenger car tyres.
Pneumatic tyres for three-wheeled motor vehicles under HS Code 4011.90.10 will also be required to meet SLS 1347, the applicable Sri Lanka Standard for such tyres.
The Gazette states that the amended requirements will apply to the relevant goods arriving at any port or airport in Sri Lanka on or after January 1, 2027.
