The Department of Meteorology has issued an Amber-level severe lightning advisory for the Central, Sabaragamuwa, Uva, Eastern and North Central provinces, as well as Mannar District.
The advisory was issued at 10.30 a.m. today (1) and will remain in effect until 11.30 p.m.
Thundershowers accompanied by severe lightning and temporary localized strong winds are expected in several areas.
The public has been advised to remain indoors during thunderstorms and avoid open areas, trees and water bodies, while taking necessary precautions against lightning.
